Inniskillin Pinot Noir 2007 Reserve Series pleases the palate
The Wine Ladies talk about Inniskillin’s 2007 Pinot Noir Reserve Series
An impromptu gathering of friends, with great food and wonderful wines allowed us the perfect opportunity to sample a Niagara Peninsula Pinot Noir from the much touted 2007 vintage.
A casual affair, Chef Rich whipped up a fabulous exotic mushroom risotto to enjoy with a mixed green salad, butter lettuce, diced sweet onions and a spattering of dried cranberries and toasted walnuts.
The self appointed chef for the afternoon while superbly showing off his prowess in the kitchen, allowed us to ponder over a small selection of wines to pair up with his soon to be savored risotto.
In the cellar, a recent arrival, Inniskillin’s Reserve Series 2007 Pinot Noir was immediately snatched up. With common knowledge now that this vintage is one of the best for the Niagara region, if not the best ever according to many winemakers and experts in the industry we open the wine with great anticipation.
Hmm, hmm, definitely a great choice, the nose is generous with a superb aroma of strawberries and a hint of cherries, a little floral too. Good structure in this wine and well balanced with soft and round tannins, a good mouth feel and length. Turns out to be a perfect partner for our Chef’s mushroom risotto and even the salad with the cranberries and touch of toasted walnuts provide a magic match. All is good, we’re all happy; with one small exception!only one bottle?
