The Vancouver Canucks are halfway to winning the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship. Keeping our fingers crossed and Vancouver Island wines on ice for the game. Having just recently visited Vancouver Island and a number of her wineries we have a great selection of wines to choose from. Decisions, decisions… Tune into The Wine Ladies TV this Wednesday June 8th as we showcase our wine adventure on Vancouver Island, from the historic city of Victoria, British Columbia nicknamed the “City of Gardens, to the beautiful Inner Harbour of Victoria alive with sea life, sail boats, to our idyllic stay at Inn at Laurel Point so wonderful. The Inn at Laurel Point features Japanese Gardens featuring a waterfall and sprawling oasis with a view of the Inner Harbour. The Inn is simply stunning, from the water that surrounds the Inn at Laurel Point hotel on three sides, to the patios and gardens and spectacular ocean views. It truly is an oasis in beautiful Victoria and just steps away from all of the culture, history and beauty of this amazing city on Vancouver Island
Our visit to Vancouver Island now with 80 vineyards growing grapes and 40 wineries and specifically to the area of the Cowichan Valley which takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning “the warm land” – fitting, as the valley enjoys Canada’s warmest mean temperature.
Our journey kicked off with a visit to Merridale, makers of award winning apple ciders, all hand-crafted, all natural and delicious. Next stop was Venturi-Schulze an organic winery where we enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting experience with proprietor Marilyn Venturi. Then a visit to Averril Creek Vineyard, often referred to as the Goliath, the largest winery on Vancouver Island, known for their Pinot Noir and winemaker ,visionary Andy Johnston who claims that this region makes the best Pinot Noir in the Canada. Passion, guts, talent, personality galore and great wines that’s what we found at our final winery Rocky Creek Winery. Couple owners Linda in sales and Mark Holford, a 3rd generation winemaker shared their pride and joy Pinot Grigio, which was delish in polished stemware just for us! They certainly had an interesting story to share beginning with their gravity fed winery in their house in the basement and the rest is history!
