31st Annual Genie Awards will be taking place March 10th, 2011 in Ottawa. These prestigious awards are Canada’s “Oscars” and we thought it would be fun leading up to the awards ceremony to feature one of the top 5 Best Motion Pictures nominees each week and match it up with The Wine Ladies pick for award winning culinary and wine combinations.

Given that it is Valentine’s Day, we thought we would select the romantic drama LES AMOURS IMAGINAIRES (HEARTBEATS): as this week’s Best Motion Picture nominee. The film is a story about close friends Francis and Marie, who both fall in love with the same person. Francis and Marie meet Nicolas at a dinner party, and the trio begins to spend a lot of time together. However, with each passing day, Nicolas becomes more remote, causing the two friends to obsess over him and compete for his attention. The classic love triangle.

Given the movie theme is about love and its Valentine’s Day we thought a bit of bubbly was in order. Therefore to celebrate Valentine’s Day the most romantic day of the year this week’s this culinary, wine and movie combination fitting of a Genie Award is Jackson-Triggs sparkling wine Methode Classique paired with a popcorn worthy of the red-carpet, Truffle Popcorn. The truffle oil sprinkled over the is a match of true love. The contrast of the richness of the truffle and the crisp acidity of the sparkling wine gets top marks from all. This combination worthy of a Genie Award!
