Nutty over Daiquiris. Ask The Wine Ladies December 2009
Dear Wine Ladies,
I have a bottle of walnut liquor which I bought in England a while ago. My question is what can I mix it with since it’s so awfully sweet and the recipes I found on the internet are about adding various syrups, scotch or vodka…I’m not really sure about these. The liquor is strong enough on its own and certainly doesn’t need more sugar in it… Please help! Thanks a million.

Dear Valentin,
Although we are true fans of walnuts, abundant in protein, fiber and omega-3 fats, we have to admit we’ve yet to experience a walnut liquor or cocktail. We approached our long time friend Victor Miller, founder of the BSO (Bartending School of Ontario established 35 years ago) and put the question to him and his staff. Here are two fabulous recipes, not overly sweet or difficult to put together. We tried the daiquiri, delish!
Cheers!
Walnut Daiquiri
1/2 oz. spiced rum
1/2 oz.walnut liquor
Whiskey sour mix or Tom collins mix (both can be found in grocery store)
Shake all together and top with ginger ale or soda
Tall glass, over ice
Truly a refreshing drink
OR
Walnut Mojito
Muddle together fresh limes and lemon wedges, fresh mint leaves
Dash of orange
Angustura bitters
After mashed add ice
Pour in
1 oz. rum
1/2 oz. walnut liquor
Stir to blend all ingredients
Rock glass preferred
Top with soda
