INAUGURAL MIKE WEIR CHARITY CLASSIC Raises over $350,000 and counting!

NBA legend Michael Jordan, Oscar winner Kevin Costner and NHL all-star rookie Luke Schenn as well as PGA TOUR stars Stephen Ames, were all present and accounted for at the inaugural Mike Weir Charity Classic held Monday July 20th, 2009 at Glen Abbey.

Everywhere you went there was a marquee celebrity from the music, sport and entertainment industries. They all came out to support Mike Weir and his foundation!. all for the children. Amateur competitors played nine holes with a PGA TOUR pro and nine holes with a celebrity. RBC is the official title sponsor of the Canadian Open and is dedicated to the preservation of this historic national treasure of the Canadian sports scene.

Over $350,000 and counting!! raised in support of the Mike Weir Foundation at this inaugural event dedicated to helping children’s physical, emotional, educational and financial needs.

We caught up with Jim Weir from Mike Weir Estate Winery and James Little of RBC to get a better understanding 1st hand what this event was all about.

A little bit of heaven was not too far away that day as Oscar winner Kevin Costner was in our midst. Susanne spoke with Kevin, although be it briefly!sigh!!!!. He was very generous with his time, wit and autograph signings as the throngs of fans followed him from hole to hole. He confessed to not having tried Ontario wines as of yet, but was looking forward to it that evening at the dinner.

NHL Rookie Youngstars All-Star Luke Schenn confessed to Georgia that he has started to develop a new fine appreciation of wine from the older players on the team and that Stephen Ames three-time PGA tour winner is quite the fashionista and wine lover and foodie as well.

It was an absolutely glorious day with endless sunshine. The most perfect day for an amazing day of golf and festivities!

The team of Sean O’Hair and Damon Allen won the event, combining for an impressive team-total of 19-under par. Anthony Kim and Rick Nash (team1) finished T2nd with Camilo Villegas and Tom Cochrane as well as Anthony Kim and Rick Nash (team 2) at 15-under par.
