The nose of a wine

Dear Wine Ladies,

Does the “nose” of a wine just mean its smell or is it more complicated than that?

Brian

Dear Brian,

No, the nose is simply the smell, however the smell can be referred to either as the aroma or the bouquet, not to complicate things but there is a slight differentiation.
Aroma is the smell of young fresh wines, or the grape, while bouquet refers more to wines that have been aged in the bottle.
