Georgia's Wine Picks

At my hacienda there seems to be loads of entertaining going on this summer... with an abundance of lighter foods going on my grill... so on the hunt for a terrific value Pinot Noir, I come across the Vina San Pedro 2012 Leyda Reserva Pinot Noir from Chile.

Coming from the Leyda Valley appellation which has quite the reputation for incredible value wines, this Pinot Noir delivers big time. On the nose bold red fruit and a hint of tobacco, while on the palate fresh berries and good acidity and gentle tannins everyone seems to love this everyday wine. All for $12.50 here locally, you can't go wrong.

As reviewed on The Wine Ladies weekly radio show Taking Life One Sip At A Time

On this show The Wine Ladies explore the country of Peru and its capital Lima, regarded as one of the gastronomic capitals of the world. From the huge bio diversity of the landscape including the coastal region, the Andean region and the Amazon comes an incredible fusion cuisine. You’ll also discover Pisco,  Peru's national drink, a grape spirit, a wonderful elixir that is made with grapes from vast, green vineyards that flourish in the heart of the arid deserts of Peru. This traditional spirit dates back hundreds of years and is the new rising star at the bar! Pisco Sour anyone? Peru a land of gastronomy, spectacular landscape, incredible people and of course Machu Picchu!

With a nod to Canada Day my wine pick hails from a winery of great distinction, known not only for their superb, award winning wines but also for their innovation and commitment to our land, our soils, our environment.  Southbrook Vineyards located in Niagara-on-the-Lake is Canada’s first winery to have its vineyard certified as a biodynamic winery, taking organic practices one step further. Southbrook’s philosophy is practiced throughout, from the biodynamic, organic vineyard into the winery. Credos to Southbrook!

Still feeling the love for Chardonnay My Wine pick is Southbrook Vineyards Triomphe Chardonnay 2012

Vintages: 172338 Price: $22.95

Perfect for our barbecues, this Chardonnay delivers big and pure! With tropical aromas that include, one of my faves, pineapple, with notes of apple and pear, a touch of vanilla and oak spice. Rich with good acidity and lively on the palate. a delicious Chardonnay, medium bodied and perfect partner for whatever I put on the grill, particularly my sister’s recipe for grilled chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese soaked in fresh herbs from my garden!

Although known as “the heart-break grape” this Pinot Noir  is heart warming, mouth watering and simply delish! Ooh how I love this wine with the rich velvety texture, the ripe cherry fruit, earthy spice, creaminess and lingering finish.

The Carneros appellation which straddles the county lines of both Napa and Sonoma is known for producing some of California’s most elegant Pinot Noirs. Situated not far from the shores of the San PabloBay, one of the key factors is the constant wind acting as a relentless cooling force keeping the heat in check and the availability of ample acids required for well balanced and lively wines.

For this vintage, the winemaker's  notes tell us that the grapes were harvested primarily from one of their favorite Los Carneros estate Pinot Noir blocks – Ahmann – which is found just two miles from the bay on the Napa side of Los Carneros. The cooling influence of the wine and the fog allows the grapes ample time on the vine to develop the full concentrated flavours and velvety texture we so enjoy with this Pinot Noir.
