So joining us here today, in our first segment, to help us all become Sherry Savvy, is the winemaker for one of the most established, historical and largely awarded Sherry producers, Paola Medina of Bodegas Williams & Humbert.

Listen to Paola Medina at 5:24 minutes into the show.

On this week’s radio show…A salute to the glorious grape and beyond, from the table, to the fortified spirit, to the jewel of Spain, Rioja

We’ll start with our salute to the glorious grape, but beyond the grape as a table wine rather the role it plays in a variety of spirits of which there are many. Examples such as Pisco from Peru, Cognac from Cognac, Grappa traditionally from Italy…or as a  fortified wine like Port from Portugal and of one of the jewels of Spain, Sherry.

Scotland had Johnnie Walker, the United States had Jim Beam, France had Richard Hennessy and now Peru has Melanie Asher. The 34-year-old has probably done as much in a decade to elevate the profile of Pisco, her native country’s signature spirit, as any booze pioneer did in his time for Scotch, bourbon or Cognac.

Melanie Asher the quintessential entrepreneur had a picture of Donald Trump inside her school locker. Handsome David Hasselhoff of the day gets trumped by “The Donald”.

Of  the kitchen that is…. Celebrity chefs today are the new rock stars, with so many cooking shows on the air from Hells Kitchen, to Iron Chef and one of our faves, CHOPPED Canada our daily diet excuse the pun is consumed with celebrity chefs, their talent and the dishing out of critiques.

And speaking of critiques, we, The Wine Ladies have  been asked to be Celebrity Judges for Chef Wars, a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity whereby just like in the TV show CHOPPED Canada, two accomplished chefs, in this case, Chef Andrew Nelson of the Delta Meadowvale Hotel as well as Chef Terry Port, of Personal Chef Solutions will vie for THE winning TITLE creating a fabulous menu using secret ingredients.

And as celebrity judges, we thought we’d reach out for some advice and why not go to the best of the best!

Joining us on the show, Celebrity chef extraordinaire, television host, judge on CHOPPED Canada, cookbook author, and an award winning recording artist,Celebrity Chef Roger Mooking.

Also joining us Executive Chef JohnRoss Woodland, who traded in his hockey skates for chopping knives as he trained to become a professional chef that lead him to fame as a recent winner of CHOPPED Canada winning $10,000 in prize money, and as it happens Roger Mooking was one of the judges that helped make that happen!

We’ll be sure to get a lot of advice from these guys for not only ourselves being judges but also for our next guest Executive Chef Andrew Nelson of the Delta Meadowvale Hotel who is one of the two chefs competing at the CHEF WARS event! Andrew has quite a lineup of awards already attached to his name, so a formidable opponent he will be for sure.

All this excitement and competition will be to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Mississauga. Habitat offers a hand up, not a hand out and helps make homes a reality for families in need. Mark Jambrovic, Event Manager, joins us to share all of this with us. It’s going to be a great show.
