Thumbs UP for Miele Dishwasher and Riedel Stemware. Just in time for the busy holidays!

Having just enjoyed a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we are quite sure if you are a wine lover as we are, you are all too familiar with this dreaded scene… after a fabulous holiday dinner party a kitchen filled with loads of dirty dishes and an assortment of your beautiful crystal stemware that all needs to be carefully washed by hand, polished and gently put away. Hours and hours of clean-up work.  Well no more, just in time for the busy holiday season, Miele and Riedel announced last week a joint partnership whereby Miele’s history of design innovation and manufacturing technologies perfectly complements the luxurious and revolutionary wine glass design of Riedel Crystal. Riedel glasses have an estimated lifespan of 1,500 washing cycles or on average, the number of washes during a 20 year timeframe when washed properly in a Miele dishwasher. “Riedel’s luxury glassware requires regular, safe and effective cleaning to ensure maximized long-term quality and appearance,” said Maximilian J. Riedel, and “Miele’s expert dishwashers offer superior results and have been proven to exceed standards required when caring for fine Riedel crystal.”  ’s an environmentally friendly solution too as one dishwasher load consumes much less water than hand washing dishes. Awesome! For a complete guide to Riedel glassware care, giving detailed explanations on loading Riedel glasses properly, selecting the best wash cycle, and choosing cleaning accessories visit both RiedelGlassCare.com and MieleGlassCare.com. Thumbs Up by The Wine Ladies!

Nicholas Malcolm, STREET LIFE, Rumi Galleries Exhibit, Oct 1st-15th

For three years Nicholas Malcolm has picked, pulled and cut paper off poles, plywood fencing and unused buildings on Queen Street, almost all of which has come from University to Roncesvalles. Nicholas believes that Queen Street long ago became the most vibrant street in Toronto and that the feel of the street is constantly evolving. He is fascinated with the ever changing collage of advertisements and personal anecdotes that appear at random, without any money changing hands. It is an open forum of expression. Anyone, from individuals to major corporations, can use street poles, plywood fencing and unused buildings to try and make their point. It is, in a real sense, anarchistic. Text and images are constantly being layered, one on top of the other. The competition for space is fierce. The result is a series of “living walls” of expression that are in continuous flux. In STREET LIFE Nicholas has captured this anarchistic form of expression through his own “living walls” that have been frozen in time.

The exhibit is up at Rumi Galleries from Oct 1st- 15th, 2011. Simply fascinating. Go check it out. Don’t forget The Wine Ladies Holiday Mix n Mingle will be taking place Nov 17th, 2011 at Rumi Galleries. For more information and tickets Click Here. We invite you to watch the video invite here:

Chateauneuf du “Tap” will be our beverage of choice while here in the desert.

Yes, we’ve put away our signature over sized wine glasses and replaced them with extreme backpacks, complete with 2 liter water bladders, special pockets for our cameras and of course lots of sun block! We arrive late Sunday afternoon and are welcomed to Desert Cliffs, by the very friendly and fit John Kemp, the proprietor of this fabulous resort. A “boutique” fitness resort if you will, with room for a maximum of only fourteen guests, all housed in a beautiful 7,000 square foot home. Personalized attention for each of the guests is what Desert Cliffs is all about. All the amenities are provided including two in-house chefs ready to cater to your personal needs.

After the introductions and a little lively and engaging chatter, John gives us a brief tour, an orientation to the program and shows us our room, spacious and bright, we love it. “If you can come back down in about an hour,” he says “we can get started right away and do your weigh-ins and measurements” Yikes, already” we exclaim “we just got off the plane, we’re all bloated, maybe we should do it in the morning”. Within the hour we find ourselves filling out a questionnaire, being measured and standing on a NASA looking machine, a scale that tells you much more than the number of pounds you have to lose! “Sometimes less is more John”, we say, but not to worry based on the program we are about to embark on including the level of personal attention, the challenging hikes and more, we are confident our goals will be met, and Susanne will fit once again into her white skinny jeans! Let the adventure begin!

Day 2: Kanarraville, a hike of splendour and adventure. Incredible waterfalls, climbing ladders up to new heights. No worries about the hiking boots, got to rough it sometimes. Steep climbing meaning you got to come down, had to go down on the behind in a couple of spots. How unsophisticated is that!

Canyon slots with the walls stretching over 100 feet high into the brilliant blue sky, down in the canyon , protected from the sun, we relish the coolness, and take in the magnificence of this geological wonder, A glistening fresh, rapid water fall, rushes over a man made wooden, somewhat unbalanced ladder, we are to ascend. the water is Freezing, Georgia takes the plunge and starts the climb, in a moment, legs feeling numb…. No one else is coming! She turns back, soaking, and a little more than refreshed.

Jak Meyer to star in Celebrity Wine Maker’s Dinner Sept 22nd

After 3 long years of searching Jak Meyer finally found the perfect vineyard site in the Okanagan Valley. In 2006 he and his wife Janice bought a small 1.62 hectare vineyard on the coveted Naramata bench, and in 2009 a 6.9 hectare property in Okanagan Falls. The Meyer’s focus is Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, producing less than 3000 cases from mature 14 year old vines.
