The birthplace of rosé going back over 2600 years. Monsieur Julien Cothenet is Export Director for Remy Pannier. Remy Pannier has been producing wines since 1885. They are located in the Loire Valley and are the producers of one of the top two selling rosés in Canada.
The Loire Valley is the second largest region for the production of Rosé wines, just after the Cotes de Provence but unfortunately they are not as well known, explains Julien.!!!
He goes on to say, “however, our Rosé d’anjou Appellation is among the fruitiest Rosé you can find in France. With a lovely hint of softness which makes it so easy to drink. Keep it mind also its low level of alcohol, around 10.50 %. You can drink it all day long, it is so refreshing during a hot summer day!!!! ( with a little bit of moderation anyway)
Grilled Shrimp
Julien’s loves to enjoy a glass of wine after a long day of work, to relax with just red berries or with spicy peanuts. His favourite pairing is Remy Pannier Rose D’Anjou with grilled shrimps, spicy pork sandwich, or a vegetable quiche. Sounds pretty good to us!!!

Coming up on the show today, we celebrate International Rosé Day! Yes, as of a couple of years ago Rosé was awardedits very own day. In fact now there are three 3 International Rosé Days!!! It seems wine lovers around the world are increasingly seeing the world through rosé-tinted glasses. They are embracing #RoséAllDay with consumption skyrocketing in popularity.
Gone are the days of super sweet and sappy roses. Now when you think pink, think crisp, dry with a zippy acidity, well made, with a range of seductive aromas. Including the likes of red berries, peach, citrus, violet, melon, hibiscus and more depending on where it’s made.
We will be chatting with Vineyard Manager and Winemaker Shauna White, of Adamo Estate Winery, located in an emerging region. Adamo is are dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming. It produces a range of wines including of course the Adamo rosé. The winery is located in the Orangeville area of Ontario.
We experienced this stunning winery first hand with a walk about of the facilities, taste the beautiful rose wines and to meet Shauna White, winemaker who we named “Super Girl”. Look at those pipes!!! VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!
The history begins with Mario Adamo: visionary, risk-taker, pioneer.
Born in Calabria, Italy, and arriving in Canada when he was 18 years old, Mario followed the path to where his passion for food could shine. In 1972, Mario and his wife Nancy started a thriving catering business, and in 1985, they took the opportunity to move their business and life to a location that really felt like home. It was then that Hockley Valley Resort was born, and has now evolved into a 104 room, four-season resort and culinary destination.
As the years passed, Mario continued to consider the land in their region, comparing it to his home in Calabria. He remembered the vine-covered hills fondly, deciding that the hills of Hockley Valley would also be a sustainable option for grape-growing. Alhough the region was not known for winemaking, this did not deter Mario. He followed his instinct and planted some test vines with his late friend, Frank. And he waited.
Mario Adamo’s stunning original paintings populate the walls of the stately Adamo Estate Winery.
Adamo Estate Winery welcoming entrance room.
The vitality of those vines was confirmed when Jonas Newman of Hinterland Winery paid Mario an early spring visit, confirming that the vines were hearty enough for extended planting.
The Adamo Estate Winery Tasting Bar- The winery offers over 30 wines.
Mario’s sheer will and determination, combined with the family’s standard for the highest quality, is the foundation for Adamo Estate Winery. Along with their drive to succeed, the Adamos sought sage advice (from winemakers like Jonas Hinterland) and capable staff, like their Vineyard and Winery Manager, Shauna White, whose experience is surpassed only by her passion for excellence.
THE GREAT ROOM A beautiful bright space, casual seating – open kitchen concept, also offers a panoramic view of the vineyard. Open the nano-wall to the outdoor patio and feel like you’re sitting with the vines.

Dr. Bruce Gardner of Dental Gardner Group joins us next. Dr. Gardner takes care of The Wine Ladies, and our smiles. No red wine stains on our pearly whites. Dr. Gardner is to share with us the importance of dental care as it also relates to anti-aging!
Red wine has previously been linked to a range of supposed health benefits, from helping the heart to lowering the risk of diabetes.
Now a new study suggests it contains chemicals that can help in the fight against tooth decay and gum disease.
Researchers found compounds from the drink, known as polyphenols, helped fend off harmful bacteria in the mouth.Previous studies have suggested that the health benefits of polyphenols are linked to them being antioxidants that protect the body from harmful free radicals. However, recent studies have indicated that polyphenols might also boost health by working with “good bacteria” in our gut.
Scientists looked into whether wine polyphenols might also be good for oral health.
Researchers compared the effects of two polyphenols from red wine against grape seed and red wine extract supplements on bacteria that stick to teeth and gums and cause dental plaque, cavities and gum disease. They found the wine polyphenols and extracts all reduced the bacteria’s ability to stick to the cells, but the polyphenols – caffeic and p-coumaric acids – were more effective. When combined with the Streptococcus dentisani – believed to be an oral probiotic, which stimulates the growth of good bacteria – the polyphenols were even better at inhibiting the pathogenic bacteria.
The findings, they said, could ultimately lead to new dental treatments.

Ed Madronich, Shawn and Ed Brewing Co. and Flat Rock Cellars
Our guest is the Ed, in the Shawn and Ed. Ed Madronich is a co-owner of the brewery as well as the President of the award winning wines of Flat Rock Cellars. The winery is located on the Jordan Bench of the Niagara Escarpment. We welcome Ed to share with us some of the health benefits of enjoying a glass of red wine or beer and learn more about Flat Rock Cellars and the Shawn and Ed Brewing Co.
Craft beer has health benefits.
You read that right!
Research has shown that craft beer has more health benefits than red wine! Craft beer contains more nutrients than does wine. Craft beer also contains some soluble fiber, some B vitamins (notably folate), a range of antioxidants and it is also the richest source of silicon. Silicon in the diet may help in countering osteoperosis.
Wine contains more antioxidants than beer. But do they actually get into the body and reach the parts where they need to work? There are doubts about that. It has been shown that the antioxidant ferulic acid is taken up from beer into the body (more efficiently than from the tomato).
Shawn and Ed Brewing Co. Lagershed
LAGERSHED beers are brewed with the kind of craftsmanship that went into beer making before it became a high volume business.
The brew master prepares LAGERSHED beers for everyday enjoyment using natural, simple ingredients carefully crafted to deliver the great taste adventure only possible when you brew for quality not quantity.
Shawn and Ed Brewing Co, Barrelshed
BARRELSHED brews are like nothing else you’ll find. They are craft brewed then aged gently in wine barrels to produce unique, flavour-filled taste adventures.
Available in smaller batches, BARRELSHED is for those who like to take the road less travelled, to seek adventure that few dare to try because they know new adventures deliver the best rewards.
Uses a variety of beer styles to match to the woody, lightly acidic red wine characteristics. The perfectly-balanced flavour profiles will utilize a variety of malts and hops to provide distinctive oak affected beers that benefit from slow oxidation to generate lengthy, burnt flavours with a light to moderate bitter finish.

Flat Rock Cellars Logo
Flat Rock Cellars was founded in 1999 on a spectacular piece of the Niagara Escarpment known as the Jordan Bench. The winery is perched on a gently rolling slope studded with vines. The building is a quirky, glass-encased, hexagonal masterpiece that’s distinctive and fun. From here you can enjoy our crowning glory, the breathtaking views of the Peninsula and across Lake Ontario to Toronto.
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Given the regional characteristics, the sub region and Flat Rock’s physical location or terroir, these are the three varietals that are the signature wines of Flat Rock Cellars.
We’ve created two tiers of wine within each variety, Reserve and Estate.
The Reserve wines are identified by unique names relating to our wines like The Rusty Shed and Gravity. The Estate wines highlight the individual variety.
The Reserve wines, created from sub blocks in the vineyard that express exceptional purity of fruit. They are intricately layered and show great depth. While the Estate wines provide a fruit forward, easy-drinking wine experience.
