Thanksgiving Dinner 2024

Pairing Wine with Thanksgiving Dinner
The star of the meal is often turkey, which, being a mild protein, pairs well with a variety of wines. But the real challenge comes with the diverse sides: sweet potatoes, tart cranberries, savory stuffing—each brings its own flavors. Here are some wine-pairing tips to ensure your meal is as harmonious as your family gathering:

Thanksgiving wines
  • Red Wines: Opt for lighter reds that won’t overpower the turkey or clash with the sides. Wines like Pinot NoirGrenache, or Beaujolais offer fruit-forward flavors with soft tannins, making them perfect companions to the mix of dishes on your Thanksgiving table.
  • White Wines: If white is more your style, consider something that balances the richness of the food without being too sharp or oaky. Riesling (dry or off-dry), Viognier, and Chenin Blanc all have the versatility to handle the variety of flavors that come with Thanksgiving.
  • Sparkling Wines: Don’t forget about bubbly! Sparkling wine or Champagne can bring a fresh, celebratory touch to your meal. Its acidity and bubbles make it a great pairing for everything from turkey to stuffing to cranberry sauce.

The Cannabis Sommelier

Meet The Cannabis Sommelier, Andrew Freedman. Pairing wine and cannabis… really?

Andrew’s expertise in pairing cannabis, craft beer, cocktails and wine creates a one of a kind craft cannabis culinary experience that excites and tantalizes the taste buds. You can be sure that you have never experienced fine dining like The Cannabis Sommelier presents.

Andrew worked in the cannabis trade for over a decade. Noticing that there was a lack of scientific language for describing cannabis he became very interested in blind tasting wine.

His expertise in growing and extracting cannabis led to a passion in viticulture and oenology.  He soon found himself living on a vineyard working as a cellar hand at an estate winery. While honing his palate he became a WSET 3 and Canadian wine scholar.

Andrews passion for cannabis and wine led him to begin teaching what he had learned and created “The Cannabis Sommelier” YouTube channel which currently features new content every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

We are excited the holidays are finally here and we know what that means, lots of turkey for one thing for many, family get togethers, parties, lots of glam and glitter and very importantly, lets not forget about a little bubbly and the wine!

Talking the Big Bird & Wine

Whether it’s your turn to cook and serve the big bird this year or you’re just looking for the right wine to bring your host — try these wines that pair best, along with tips for the perfect big bird.

The mild flavour of turkey matches well with VQA Ontario wines in a variety of styles and varietals. Ontario’s cool-climate sparkling whites and bubbly rosés have natural food-friendly acidity and a range of sweetness levels. If you’re serving whites, take pairing cues from the sides: a local oak-aged Chardonnay complements a chestnut stuffing, while herbaceous Ontario Sauvignon Blanc partners with green veggies such as beans, fresh peas or Brussels sprouts. For reds, Ontario Pinot Noir’s fruity character tastes perfect with turkey and earthy sides, such as mushrooms and onions.
