J. Lohr Los Osos Merlot 2016

So this week I went with a red wine today too. My pick is from Paso Robles, situated on California’s Central Coast. Georgia and I visited this winery a couple of years ago. We headed down the coast after shooting our show in Napa Valley.

So J, for Jerry Lohr, has been around since 1974, a hugely successful brand, one of America’s most known wineries, they have two wine centers now, one in San Jose and of course the one we visited. J Lohr is actually one of the few family owned estate-focused wineries of this size.

To the vino, you know me pretty well, how often do I gravitate to Merlot? Not that often right? So this time I did and I was super happy about the J. Lohr Osos Merlot 2016 $22.95 I cracked open when I got home!

So this Merlot actually has a substantial dose of Malbec in it, no shrinking violet this wine, bright, seductive aroma of plum and blueberry, full juicy dark fruit flavour and a lengthy finish.

Susanne’s Wine Pick

This Malbec has aromas of plum and blueberry with spice and peppery notes. Dry with good aroma replays. Structured with soft tannins and a solid fruity finish.

Las Barrancas is in a stunning location with premium quality soils, ideal climate and environment, located in Mendoza, in the district of Maipu within the Mendoza River highland. In the area, at around 750 meters above sea level, more than 400 hectares belong to Pascual Toso.

It is a heterogeneous terroir, an uneven piece of land going down 7 meters, where stretch soils with bare rock in which grapes stand up with all its quality, to deeper soils with green coverage.

Las Barrancas possess excellent conditions for climatic agriculture, with warm days and fresh nights, low humidity relative and high heatstroke what is translated in vineyards with excellent quality of fruits and sanity. The water for irrigation comes from the snow of the Andes mountain trough the main River of the county, “Mendoza River”. Organic matter is very scarce due to the quick decomposition it goes through because rains are not heavy and there is intensive cultural activity. Although the soils are of similar origin, various textures may be found in small areas.

Lavish lifestyle with prize Pitars Prosecco, Preferred Magazine and Executive Chef from OVEST.

Coming up on our show today, one of Italy’s many claims to fame, is of course their very own sparkling wine, growing in popularity day by day. Not only is it a wine, but it is a place, and it is a grape and there is a bit of confusion out there about this delightful and delicious bubbly and that is Prosecco.

Episode 46: Pitars Prosecco;Nicola Pittaro, Danylo Mielnik, Carlo Greco

There is much more to this bubbly, with an interesting history, than many might know. So in our first segment we are excited to share with everyone today a very special winery, located in the Friuli region in northeastern Italy, the wine Castel Pitars winery.

Pitars Winery

Here is a wine producer that dates back to 1510, steeped in tradition, now run by four brothers producing an exciting array of wines, along with their Prosecco, wines of indigenous grapes, international varietals and unique blends.

Not too long ago we had the pleasure of interviewing on our audio podcast EPIDODE 31, the winemaker Mason Spink from Dirty Laundry. A wonderful winery located in Summerland of the Okanagan Valley.

This winery has a very cool history, with quite a bit of monkey business that went on in its earlier days. Check out the video for the full story. This winery is so much fun, it is laid back, tongue and cheek, but also makes fabulous wines.

“This femme fatale has a luscious, fruit forward style that is all nouveau monde. Vive la difference!” is how Mason Spink the winemaker refers to this un-oaked Chardonnay. It is stainless steel fermented to allow the fruit to show brilliantly in the wine.I loved this wine with a lively, bright acidity, citrus, apple and a hint of honey, really delicious and has also won numerous awards…

Villa Maria Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Susanne’s Wine Pick

Villa Maria Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Villa Maria Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc 2014

For me, over these last few gorgeous warm days we enjoyed, I was drawn to my fave once again, because I know in the winter months I tend to move onto other whites a little more. My fave of course is of course Sauvignon Blanc. So this week my wine pick is the Villa Maria Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc 2014 $18.95 (Prod # 734798) From guess where??? Marlborough, New Zealand.

Susanne'sWine Pick

Susanne’s Wine Pick

For this wine the fruit comes from two vineyard areas of Marlborough, the Wairau and Awatere valleys, which sit side by side
This “dream blend” as winemaker Simon Fell calls it derives its richness and weight from the Wairau area while its finesse and minerality come from the cooler Awatere area.

Right on Mr Fell! I really enjoyed this Sauvignon Blanc, it delivered just like you said it would, crisp, lively, zesty and delicious with intense classic citrus, passion fruit and herbal notes, definitely got my taste buds salivating for something delish to munch on with my second, third fourth sips…
