We turn our attention next to Oregon, which to many is synonymous with Pinot Noir, that fickle varietal, the most planted in the state at which Oregon excels! But there’s more! Now considered a world class wine region, Oregon has 18 approved wine growing regions, over 600 wineries and 900 vineyards, and the state is known for high quality award winning wines.
Kelly Brown the V.P. of Consumer Sales. Sokol Blosser
To fill us in more and share with us the story and wines of a very special, pioneering winery founded in 1971 called Sokol Blosser, we chat with Michael Kelly Brown the V.P. of Consumer Sales. Sokol Blosser is family owned and operated, organically farmed winery located in the Willamette Valley, having established themselves as a true legacy Oregon winery.
Sokol Blosser, A Legacy of Oregon Wines since 1971.
1970 was winding down when our founders, Bill Blosser and Susan Sokol Blosser pulled their ’68 VW Camper up to an abandoned prune orchard some 30 miles southwest of Portland. These moonstruck kids had little farming experience and just a basic knowledge of wine making. What they did have, in abundance, was a passion for growing the Pinot Noir grape and creating world-class wine. Soon after settling on this extraordinary land, they planted their first vines and cinched their place as pioneers in Oregon’s budding wine industry.

So for my wine pick today I enjoyed a yummy Cabernet Sauvignon last week in my backyard with a nice juicy steak. It was from Australia, from one of Australia’s greatest fine wine regions, the Margaret River, known of course for their Cabernet Sauvignon.
Full bodied, smooth, succulent with a juicy flavor of cherries, a hint of chocolate, layered, with hints of fine oak and a lasting finish.
The name Ringbolt by the way was a ship that sank during the late 1800’s in what is now known as Ringbolt Bay, located on the southern tip of the Margaret River wine region.

So for my wine pick today, I am going back to a white wine and back over to the Rhone. I was there last week, yes with my Châteauneuf-du-Pape! Although the Southern Rhone, now I head up to the Norther Rhone.
This week, my wine pick comes from the Rhone’s most famous white wine appellation which makes wine exclusively from the Viognier grape, and that is Condrieu. The wine is Les Vins de Vienne Condrieu.
True to the characteristics which define a delectable, beautifully made Viognier, this one is seductive on the nose and mouth filling, rich on the palate, with ripe peaches, apricots, honeysuckle and floral notes, like violets, perfume, but not overly, juicy with a crisp acidity and long satisfying finish. A treat to be sure.
